PSU's National Anthropology Honors Society Lambda Alpha is the Beta Chapter of Oregon. The name Lambda Alpha comes from the Greek words Logos Anthropou, meaning "the study of human being".

The purpose of LAB is to:

  1. Encourage and stimulate scholarship and research in anthropology by recognizing and honoring superior achievement in the discipline among students, faculty, and other persons engaged in the study of anthropology;
  2. Provide an academic and social forum in order to address anthropological issues at institutional, local, state, region, national, and international levels;
  3. Promote the field of anthropology and related subjects within Portland State University and the community;
  4. Promote professional and academic development for voting members, honorary and social members, and faculty.
